I came across a variation of this recipe ages ago. This week I finally made it.
3/4 to 1 box of ziti
2 cups milk (or milk substitute)
2 cups grated Gruyere
2 cups grated Parmesan
2 large eggs
3 slices of bread, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 medium onion, chopped
3 tablespoons flour
1/4 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tbsp cayenne pepper
8-12 ounces ham
1. Preheat oven to 425, boil pasta until al dente. Drain and transfer to bowl, toss with 1/4 cup milk
2. Combine cheese in a bowl. Beat 1/4 cup milk and eggs in another bowl. Fold in bread and add 1/2 the cheese.
3. Cook onion and garlic until brown. Add flour and spices.Slowly add 3/4 cup water and remaining milk. Bring to a boil the remove from heat. Add remaining cheese, then add pasta and toss.
4. Grease a shallow baking dish. Add half of pasta mix, then a layer of ham followed by a layer of pasta mix. Bake 20 minutes, or until golden.
You do not want to know this. Trust me.
